College of Education Q&A with Jelisa Bass

What is your role, and how will you work with the College of Education?

I serve as a Career Strategist on the Career Discovery & Success team. In this role, I will work with students in the College of Education and the College of Human Sciences on professional development and career strategy related to their career paths, including resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, personal statement writing, and more.

How can faculty and staff collaborate with you?

The College of Education already does an excellent job of providing opportunities for students to excel professionally. I want to work alongside the faculty and staff in the college to identify areas where support is needed. For example, students preparing their resumes for clinical residency and those who want to practice their interviewing skills before Education Interview Day.

How does your role benefit the students in our college?

Students can schedule an appointment with me via Handshake to discuss their unique career needs, concerns, and challenges. My goal is to build their confidence regarding the journey that awaits them following their time as a student at Auburn.

Where were you before you came to Auburn?

I previously worked as a Career and Internship Advisor at my alma mater, Georgia Southern University, where I served as the career liaison for STEM majors.

What do you like most about Auburn so far?

I love the rich history of the institution and the traditions it upholds with pride.
