As a Warmhearted Individual Nurturing Great Success (WINGS) peer mentor you can make a difference in someone’s life – maybe even your own! Please review the WINGS peer mentor opportunities available below. If you are between the ages of 18-26, apply to become a WINGS peer mentor!
Responsibilities/Expectations
Level 1: Reside with EAGLES Students
- Housing and meal fees are waived
- Partial Scholarship
- Promote and support independent living skills
- Serve as a natural support for the EAGLES student
- Check in with EAGLES students throughout the day and at night
- Participate in activities and events with EAGLES students on a regular basis
- Interact with EAGLES students on a daily basis to support development of social and independent living skills
Level 2: Substitute/Alternate
- Substitute for the Level 1 WINGS
- Hourly rate of pay
- Reside in the bedroom of Level 1 WINGS
- Assume the duties and responsibilities of Level 1 WINGS
- Participate in activities and events with EAGLES students
Level 3: Volunteers (Academic, Social, Health and Wellness, and Employment)
Academic
- Provide inclusion support in university and program-specific courses
- Provide 1:1 tutoring in Academic Support course
- Provide supports for time management and organization skills during planning and organization
- Participate in activities and events with EAGLES students
Social
- Provide opportunities for connections to peers, events, and/or activities of interest
- Provide interpersonal supports in social and/or community environments
- Provide suggestions for planning activities and events that are the students’ interests
- Participate in activities and events with EAGLES students
Health and Wellness
- Provide opportunities for connections to peers, events, and/or activities related to health and wellness
- Provide suggestions for ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle
- Assist the EAGLES with exercise, grocery shopping, or outdoor activities
- Participate in activities and events with EAGLES students
Employment
- Serve as a job coach at work-based training sites
- Provide behavioral, interpersonal and task-specific supports to EAGLES students
- Complete assessments for EAGLES student work performance
- Relay messages or concerns of the employer or students to instruction coordinator and/or director of the program
Level 4: Volunteers (primarily social)
Level 4 WINGS will not have a set schedule, but will intermittently engage with EAGLES students based on events offered and volunteer’s availability.
- Provide opportunities for connections to peers, events, and/or activities of interest
- Provide interpersonal supports in social and/or community environments
- Provide suggestions for planning activities and events that are the students’ interests
- Participate in activities and events with EAGLES students
