  • Bridge Program: 2019
  • Doctoral: Auburn University, anticipated 2023

“I will always be very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the of the 2019 Future Scholars Summer Research Bridge Program! As an incoming School of Kinesiology doctoral student, the Bridge Program prepared me to be successful through graduate level academic and research preparation. I also built invaluable relationships with my cohort of students who were also from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. We successfully learned and worked together as a team all summer to become the best future scholars possible. I attribute my successful and very smooth transition into my first semester as a doctoral student to my Bridge Program mentors and cohort of amazing students.”

  • Masters: Auburn University

“Auburn University’s Summer Bridge Program is the single most impactful professional development experience of my trajectory towards earning a PhD, and quite frankly of my career and life. This enriching experience helped me successfully transition from an HBCU to excelling at a PWI. Specifically, it allowed me time to acclimate to a very different environment (physically, socially, and emotionally), gave me my first exposure to research which I have grown to love, allowed me to sit in on graduate courses which increased my self-confidence, and most importantly allowed me to meet individuals who have become my greatest advocates and mentors in academia. Without this program, I am not sure where I would be! Thank you to those who have previously invested in this program and to those who will in the future.”

“In the spring of 2011, I was a graduating senior at Spelman College. I had plans for my future, however, I was unsure of how to accomplish to them. I was fortunate to be introduced to the Summer Bridge Program. It was presented as an opportunity for me to complete research and engage in professional development. However, as a participant in the program I received much more. I gained a reservoir of knowledge, leadership, skills and relationships that have propelled my future and I am forever grateful for the opportunity.”

“The Future Scholars Summer Research Bridge Program was an invaluable experience for me. Coming from Morehouse College (an HBCU), I was not very familiar with the matriculation processes of graduate school. In this program, however, my unique culture and experience were celebrated while I was being made aware of the opportunities and community that Auburn University has to offer. This program was the impetus to completing my doctoral degree and beginning my career as an Assistant Professor at Rowan University. My pedagogical and research-based experiences in the program have now transitioned into my line of inquiry, which I will be pursuing throughout my academic career.”
