The Early Childhood/Elementary Special Education program prepares highly qualified teachers to serve children with a variety of disabilities from birth through age 8 in a range of settings from the home to elementary school. Coursework reflects the Council for Exceptional Children's Division for Early Childhood's Recommended Practices. Professional coursework provides opportunities to apply knowledge in a variety of clinical experiences.

Distance Learning Option

Distance program offerings in Early Childhood/Elementary Special Education include the alternative master’s and traditional master’s degrees. Courses are primarily offered asynchronously via online. Contact the Program Coordinator for additional program specific information relating to technology, exam, software/hardware, and technical competence requirements.

Accreditation and Approvals

Auburn University holds regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Auburn University’s College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The bachelor’s and master’s programs in Special Education are approved by the Alabama State Board of Education. In addition, the State of Alabama signs the National Association of State Directors of Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement which facilitates the applications of graduates when they apply for certification in other states.
