The Collaborative Teaching Special Education program prepares students to be highly qualified teachers in order to serve students with disabilities in the elementary and secondary grades. The program includes coursework that covers all disabilities, except sensory impairments, and all levels of severity. Emphasis is placed on collaboration with general education in an inclusive setting.

Distance Learning Option

Distance program offerings in Collaborative Teacher Special Education include the alternative master’s and traditional master’s degrees. Courses are primarily offered asynchronously via online. Contact the Program Coordinator for additional program specific information relating to technology, exam, software/hardware, and technical competence requirements.

Accreditation and Approvals

Auburn University holds regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Auburn University’s College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The bachelor’s and master’s programs in Special Education are approved by the Alabama State Board of Education. In addition, the State of Alabama signs the National Association of State Directors of Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement which facilitates the applications of graduates when they apply for certification in other states.
