The College/University Teaching certificate provides professional expertise and prepares future and current faculty for successful careers in college and university classrooms. The certificate is available to students in all approved graduate programs at Auburn University. It is also available to students outside of Auburn University who are eligible for graduate study. This includes post-docs and other research staff at Auburn.
The College/University Teaching certificate requires completion of 12 hours of courses as follows:
HIED 8500 The Professoriate (3 hrs)
HIED 8510 Seminar in College Teaching (3 hrs)
ADED 7910 Practicum in Adult Education (3 hrs) OR
Graduate practicum in student’s home department if offered (3 hrs)
Elective (3 hrs) – Choose from the coursework listed below:
ADED 7650/7656 Teaching the Disadvantaged Adult (3 hrs)
ADED 7970/8970 Special Topics in Adult Education (3 hrs)
EDLD 8300 Curriculum Theory and Practice (3 hrs)
EPSY 7400 Educational Psychology and Educational Implications (3 hrs)
EPSY 7410 The Individual in the Teaching-Learning Process (3 hrs)
EPSY 7420 Learning Theory and Educational Practice (3 hrs)
FOUN 7020 Social and Cultural Diversity in American Education (3 hrs)
GRAD 8940 Preparing Future Faculty Seminar I (1 hr)
GRAD 8950 Preparing Future Faculty Seminar II (1 hr)
Other related courses, as approved by certificate coordinator (1-3 hrs)
Prospective students intending to pursue a graduate certificate without enrolling in a degree program must apply as a non-degree seeking graduate student through the Graduate School. Degree seeking students who plan to add a graduate certificate to their current degree program do not need to apply for admission to the graduate certificate program but must notify the certificate coordinator of their intent to pursue the graduate certificate before completion of their degree program.
