Join us this Saturday, March 26, from 9-2 for the Spring opening of the O Grows Community Garden. Even if you have a kryptonite thumb…come see what we are doing and let one of our student staff show you around. We are located at 1103 Glenn St. in Opelika, behind the Southside Center for the Arts (a.k.a. the Brown School) off of Johnson Ave. Parking is available.
This year we are excited to share multiple improvements–including 11,000 sq ft of planting space, fixed irrigation, and a 35’x90′ greenhouse. Garden plots are available for free for school children and a nominal fee for adult residents.
O Grows is a partnership of the Food Bank of East Alabama, Opelika City School, Keep Opelika Beautiful and Auburn University. All proceeds from vegetable production and sales benefit the Community Market and funding of paid internships and career ready standards based education for students at the Opelika Learning Center. In 2015, O Grows donated over 5,000 lbs of produce to the Community Market of the Food Bank of East Alabama and funded nearly $10,000 in wages to local youth.
