Dr. LaWanda Edwards, a 2009 College of Education graduate, was elected to serve as a Director for the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) starting October 2014, Edwards earned a doctorate in counselor education and supervision from Auburn University. She is currently an associate professor and serves as the Interim Associate Dean of the College of Education and Coordinator of Counselor Education Programs at Alabama State University.
Edwards will lead school counselors across the nation and serve on the ASCA Board of Directors for a three-year term.
ASCA supports school counselors’ efforts to help students focus on academic, career and social/emotional development so they achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society.
With more than 28,000 members, ASCA provides professional development, publications, and other resources to professional school counselors around the globe.
Edwards also serves as the NCATE Director at Alabama State University and she previously served as president of the Alabama School Counselor Association for the 2012-2013 academic year.
