Tiger Giving Day 2017

February 21, 2017

Tiger Giving Day - February 21, 2017 - tigergiving.org - Raising money for a makerspace with 3D printing capabilityThe College of Education is raising funds to create a makerspace that is equipped with 3D printer technology, which will transform not only how our students understand subject matter, but also how they’ll be able to teach it to their future students. This technology is especially exciting for our teacher education students pursuing a degree in a STEM field.

A makerspace is a physical location where faculty and/or students gather to share resources and knowledge, tinker, try out solutions, work on projects, network, and create. Makerspaces provide the space and equipment in a community environment for students to complete project-driven, self-directed learning and promote an active learning culture.

The makerspace will be located in the college’s Learning Resources Center (LRC) in Haley Center. The LRC is an information center providing reference materials, classroom reserves, computer and network support services, audiovisual equipment services, graphic design, word processing, and distance education technology support. The addition of a makerspace to the LRC, equipped with a 3D object capture and editing station, a 3D capture stage, 3D printers, and a laser cutter, will advance the services available to all of the college’s faculty, staff, and students.
