Elementary Education “STEM” Summer Camp

Rising 3rd-5th grade students are invited to join the excitement! The camp will promote summer learning success with hands-on discovery activities and technology-rich experiences. STEM is the interdisciplinary and applied approach of science, technology, engineering, and math within a curriculum-based framework which engages students in authentic, meaningful, learning environments. Our program also infuses the arts into this framework. Literacy skills and strategies will be integrated into all activities. Students will have a blast as they conduct experiments, explore their creativity, research the topics below, and challenge their critical thinking skills. Participants may register for all 3 weeks or for individual weeks.

Week 1: June 12-16 Structures

Students will be creating buildings, towers, bridges, and/or windmills and testing them in the elements. They will be buying materials, designing blueprints, and reading about various structural elements. This week each grade centers around an appropriate text for students to utilize as they learn about structures.

Week 2: June 19-23 Robotics

Students will be coding with Dot and Dash Robots to conduct launching experiments, play the xylophone, talk, and move around. Various grades will also be creating robots, robotic hands, and hydraulic robots that they will try to pitch to the “Shark Tank.”

Week 3: June 26-30 Rockets, boats, cars, and monster trucks

Students in various grades will be exploring forces in motion by making and experimenting with various forms of transportation that they create. This includes measuring and graphing results. The week ends with a rocket launch and a closing camp ceremony with family members invited to attend.
