Teacher Education Information

The college's teacher education programs are designed to ensure that program graduates have the knowledge, skills and dispositions to help all students learn. These programs maintain selective admission, retention and graduation requirements and are in compliance with the Alabama Teacher Certification Code. In addition, the college offers an assurance of competence that articulates its guarantee with regards to graduates of the teacher education programs.

This section includes information about the transition points for students in teacher education programs, the Alabama Prospective Teacher Testing Program, and required fingerprinting.

Please note: All professional education courses (i.e. methods, foundations and orientations) related to teacher certification must be taken and completed successfully at Auburn University. The College of Education will not accept professional education courses from a transfer institution.

Transition Points

Alabama Prospective Teacher Testing Programs (APTTP)

  • Basic Skills Assessments offers information related to the first component of the Alabama Prospective Teacher Testing Program (APTTP).

  • Praxis II provides information related to the second component of the Alabama Prospective Teacher Testing Program (APTTP).

Fingerprints

The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) requires that all undergraduate students in a teacher certification program have their fingerprints cleared through the ABI/FBI. Fingerprinting and a clear background check are required for admission to teacher education.

The ALSDE uses Cogent Systems as the vendor for the outsourcing of fingerprinting services. All individuals enrolled in a teacher certification program are to use this system to meet the fingerprinting/background check requirement.

Information, including online registration and fingerprinting procedures, is available on the Cogent Systems website externalweb. The physical fingerprinting site for Auburn, Alabama is Pak Mail, 300 North Dean Road (Kroger Shopping Center).
